The Surprising Secret to Success

Welcome back!
Today, I’d like to introduce you to Jacqueline Wales.
Jacqueline is a global nomad, author, musician, martial artist, mother, coach and more. She’s the creator of Transformational Strategies for Success, an online personal development program and author of two books The Fearless Factor and The Fearless Factor at Work.
Today, Jacqueline lives a fearless and fulfilling life, but it wasn’t always that way.
Where did Jacqueline’s dance through life begin?
Jacqueline grew up in fear surrounded by violence and poverty due to her father’s alcoholism. To shield herself, she learned at an early age to run and hide. This protective behavior impacted her life for many decades and held her back from realizing her potential.
Why does fear inhibit change?
As humans, we’re wired to seek comfort and security over change and the unknown. Because of this, most people dislike change. The way “things have always been done” provides structure, promotes stability, and creates a sense of security.
This is often why the status quo prevails – people fear change and the discomfort and uncertainty it brings with it. Fear stops people from growing, evolving, and changing. In a nutshell, change is difficult. It often doesn’t feel good, it’s uncomfortable and it takes time and effort.
How did Jacqueline overcome her fear?
Jacqueline went through her own hero’s journey to face her fears. She explains: “It took a long time and a lot of support from professionals, coaches, teachers, and mentors.” But when Jacqueline finally conquered her fears, a universe of possibilities opened up for her.
She launched a successful coaching and consulting business at the young age of 53. She earned a black belt in karate. She discovered an ardent love of CrossFit.
What can you learn from Jacqueline about embracing your fear?
Jacqueline says: “Change is possible if you do the work.” What does the work involve? Based on her martial arts training, Jacqueline identifies six key elements: focus, commitment, consistency, discipline, perseverance, and follow through.
Like me, Jacqueline believes most people want to become the best leader or human being they can possibly be. They know that deep down, there is potential for greater impact for themselves, others, and the world. And that realizing this potential will bring them joy and satisfaction.
Jacqueline discovered the secret to success: that embracing and leaning into fear rather than running away from it leads to growth!
How can you overcome your fear to embrace change?
To elevate your life, leadership, and career, Jacqueline encourages you to start by asking yourself four key questions:
- What’s truly important to me?
- What type of growth would be exciting right now?
- What fears do I feel that may currently be holding me back?
- What would happen if I worked through those fears and put in the effort to make changes?
If you are ready to roll up your sleeves and dive into change, you can join Jacqueline’s program, Transformational Strategies for Success.
